David Luke, PhD, is Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Greenwich. He is editor of the anthology, DMT Dialogues: Encounters with the Spirit Molecule, and author of Otherworlds: Psychedelics and Exceptional Human Experience.
Here he points out that DMT is a natural substance found in most plants and animals (with the exception of fungi and insects). It produces a very powerful psychedelic experience, although the major effects may last only ten minutes. Most users experience communication with what appear to be sentient spiritual entities. Often they have a cartoonish appearance. Luke explores the various metaphysical interpretations that have been offered regarding these ostensible entities.
