Here he identifies the primary scientific objection to postmortem survival as physicalism, the metaphysical notion that nature is entire based on matter and energy. He points out that this common notion within academia is not a requirement of science. In fact, it has long been disputed within philosophy, going back to Plato, and is not accepted by many Brazilian psychiatrists and academics. He describes research with the Brazilian medium, Chico Xavier. He also describes research on reincarnation and on near-death experiences.
