Kenneth R. Pelletier, MD, PhD, is professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, Medical Center. He is author of Longevity, Mind As Healer – Mind As Slayer, Toward a Science of Consciousness, Sound Mind – Sound Body, The Best Alternative Medicine, Healthy People in Unhealthy Places, and Change Your Genes – Change Your Life.
Here he discusses research findings concerning diet and nutrition. He points out that there is very little evidence that popular fad diets work in the long-run. People almost always regain the weight they may have lost. The most effective approach involves a lifestyle based on what is called the “Mediterranean Diet”. Organic food is advised. Dietary supplements, particularly anti-oxidants, can also be helpful — based upon one’s genetic makeup and needs. Individual differences are crucial. Occasional fasting is advised. Moderation is a good general rule.
