The current view of consciousness within science is that it is produced by the brain and is confined to it. With physical death, therefore, consciousness is annihilated: there is no such thing as the soul. In contrast, the great wisdom traditions affirm that there is a collective, universal mind, of which all individual minds are a part, and that consciousness survives death.
