James G. Matlock, PhD, an anthropologist, is coauthor (with Erlendur Haraldsson) of I Saw a Light and Came Here: Children’s Experiences of Reincarnation. He is also author of Signs of Reincarnation: Exploring Beliefs, Cases, and Theory. He is a regular contributor to the online Psi Encyclopedia sponsored by the Society for Psychical Research in London. He has authored dozens of academic papers concerning reincarnation and related areas.
In this interview from 2017, he provides many examples of behavioral patterns that accompany past-life memories. These patterns bear some resemblance to those that are occasionally reported among heart transplant patients. They include unexpected talents, as well as various phobias, affections, and attractions. Matlock argues that such “behavioral memories” are not readily explained by the living agent psi hypothesis.
